The Roaring 20's: Halloween With a Touch of History

The roaring 20's was a time of decadence, freedom, and albeit illegal free flowing liquor. The prohibition had struck a society that wanted to escape from the weight of WWI and do nothing but party. I think we can all relate to the roaring 20's escapism. That's why we have such a “roaring” time each time Halloween comes around. It's our time of abundance and partying each year.

What better way to embody what Halloween is all about than with a costume cut from the cloth of our forefathers and fore-flappers. Our history books are stocked with bundles of gangsters like Lucky Luciano, who was dubbed the father of modern organized crime. Halloween has to have some element of something scary doesn't it? Nothing is scarier than the original Godfather.

If you love books, why not have an homage to the flappers in “The Great Gatsby.” There is nothing sexier than a flapper. The freedom that the underground scene lent to women in the 1920's lead to much more freedom in style and expression. To freely express yourself you sometimes have to get a little silly and have a little fun!

Sarah Wallner, CEO of Musotica.com and celebrity stylist says, “History informs the styles we have now. We are constantly changing minor details but the base of the style goes back to a defining period in history. The 1920's was defining for mens and women's fashion. It opened the floodgates for a new era of fashion.”

The defining nature of the era makes it so interesting, fun, sexy, and a perfect fit for Halloween partiers. Nothing is cooler than a bad apple from the big apple or a flapper looking for a dance party. Where ever you end up on Halloween night, show up in style.

The characters, fashion, and rich history make the 1920's a wonderful time to celebrate this Halloween, luckily the booze will be legal (and drink responsibly). Happy Halloween!

How To Make Your Halloween Costume Pop

The simple answer is accessories. It's all in the care and attention to detail to the little things that makes a Halloween Costume over the top. Sarah Wallner CEO of Musotica.com and celebrity stylist says, “When you wear a costume you're telling a story, if you're dressing as Poison Ivy you want to have ivy leaf leg wraps, it's in those details that a character really comes to life.”

Every story has it's elements and accessories like the elements of a story are integral to the telling of tales. Annie Oakley would be nothing without her gun and an Indian Princess wouldn't be regal with out her headdress. Accessories keep a costume fresh, alive, and unique.

Wallner says, “Hollywood is all about the business of telling stories. In order to give full justice to a story every element has to be paid attention to. Much like writing a book, creating a costume, is an art of putting multiple elements together. ”

The more you want to make your costume pop and truly tell a story, the more you'll want accessories. The character of a costume can be defined by the simplest thing, such as a pair of secretaryglasses. The type of hat being worn can speak levels to who a person is. With this kind of craft and care into story telling.

As the old saying goes, “The devil is in the detail,” every part of your costume counts, especially the parts that are missing. The addition of a choker to your sexy school girl costume can define what type of character you are. Each detail is like an integral part of your story, who you are, what you're saying, and how you say it.

What's the defining feature for your Halloween costume this year?

This season's Trendiest Halloween Costume: Poison Ivy

Poison Ivy is arguably one of the best super villains in the comic book universe. She's not only a worthy foe of the Batman and Superman but she is an intelligent and witty character that represents strong women with a high intelligence. The character costume is now featured in Musotica's Halloween Costume section.

Sarah Wallner Celebrity Stylist saw a trend with Poison Ivy's character popping up everywhere. Poison Ivy is being seen in Gotham and as a part of the Batman/Superman universe and we'll be seeing more of her soon with many films in development, Corey Belick of Moviepilot says, "recently it was revealed that Ivy was in a relationship with Harley Quinn, so we could see a team-up with Margot Robbie have Batman go up against a Femme Fatale duo which hasn't been done before."

Wallner, says, “Poison Ivy has to be one of my favorite costumes this year, the fact that she is such a rich color green is fantastic. You can really get creative with your accessories and make up in a Poison Ivy Costume.”

When looking into what makes a costume out of the ordinary Wallner always is on the look out for what will flatter the figure, express a unique style, and tell a story. Wallner says, “Each of our Poison Ivy costumes has an individual personality that can be dressed up to the wearers liking. I looked at form fitting fabrics that expressed not only the character but the person wearing it.”

It's no wondering Reality Star fashion icon, Kim Kardashian, was spotted sporting this seductively sexy character on the red carpet. It's a costume that rocks the red carpet and the party.
